To a seller about a Hyundai Coupe 2 litre. It’s shockingly cheap because it has a couple issues but it runs, drives and has a clean interior and body. Fingers crossed it hasn’t already sold.
I only want it to flip or if the problems turn out to be expensive I’ll just part the thing out. Unfortunately I can’t afford to keep a car like that.

2 liter taxes too high or something?

Yeah that and insurance and fuel. My Twingo gets 50mpg, £110 to tax and insurance is £600 ish a year. Hyundai would be about 30mpg, £300 to tax and £1200 a year to insure. Considering I’m not working at the moment and the jobs I have been offered are only like 10 hours a week, that’s a big difference.

If I didn’t mind FWD, that might actually be an interesting little car.
A 3-door fastback hatch... (why is that such a tacitly verboten form factor anymore?)
And pininfarina-copied styling like Ferrari 456 Junior.
But not again. I just wish that class of car still had more than just the weak Scion tC, and ugly Nissan 370Z... and perhaps had an AWD drivetrain... if Focus RS can...

I always like the look of the things and they’re pretty well equipped. They’re pretty slow from what I’ve heard though and the handling is so so. I think it’s a more show than go sort of car.

Yea damn, those are all large differences. Luckily here registration tax is based of original msrp, so the Crossfire is only $135 for example.
But hey, hopefully you make some money off of it!

A coupé would be OK if you’re a girl. If not you might want to re consider.

These were quite popular once but Hyundai just walked away from the market. I think they brought out an American-optimised replacement which they didn’t even try to sell on this side of the Atlantic.

Well if I manage to buy it for asking price I could sell the seats then scrap the rest and get my money back. So should make something for sure.

Yeah the genesis coupe replaced it overseas, too big for here most likely.

Meh they’re not really a girly car to my eye. I see them as a low budget GT car for cruising about in reasonable comfort.

My brother-in-law has a Tiburon. I’ve never driven it, but he seems to like it. In series 2 of Top Gear they did a comparison of it with the Lexus SC430, and surprisingly liked it better.

It’s been 15 years and this is still the best looking korean car ever.

If only the Genesis Coupe had carried that over... Unfortunately, with the jump to a Genesis-based RWD platform in replacing the Tiburon, the hatch went away, along with some of the fun styling.

Yeah it is a smart looking thing.

I’ve heard good things from a few people. Plus at the price this one is listed it hardly matters, I’ve paid more for kinda crappy bicycles.

I used to have one of those, was a lot of fun. Manual v6 though.

Looks good on those wheels. This one is a manual too but only the 2 litre, not the fastest thing in the world.
If the seller does get back to me and it’s still available, I’ll be super tempted to keep it.

Do it

These thoughts make my wallet cry though. We’ll have to see what happens.

Theyre not fantastic cars, but theyre easy to work on. My girlfriends dad has one.
They dont handle neglect well. Also, Hyundai doesnt have any sort of trouble code display in the dash, so if its got a check engine light you absolutely need a code reader for it.
If it has a rough idle, I wouldnt waste my time on it. It could be easy, like coil packs, or it could be a world of hurt like the intake gasket. You would think these little engines would be super simple to reach everything on, but I assure you, thats not the case.

Thanks for the heads up. At this price it could be basically scrap and it's still worth it for parting out. If the margins were such that I needed it running well to make my money back I probably wouldn't take the risk.

Worth pointing out, that insurance gets cheaper as you get older if you don’t crash. For example whilst the Hyundai 2 litre might be 1200 for him, my GTI 2 litre turbo is 450 and a new Mustang GT 5 would be 950 for me, because I’m a couple years older. Tax is based on CO2 emissions and I guess the hyundai is pretty dirty.

The 2.7 v6 only has 165hp, at that time renault were making more from an NA 2l

Yeah they’re not exactly known for their sporting abilities.
